Companion No.1

Companion (No. 1) | Fall '19 | Electronics, Max/MSP, Arduino

Companion No. 1 is a digital interfacing tool, was created as a means of transferring movement data from a wireless micro-controller (the Adafruit HUZZAH ESP32) and sensor (the BNO055 9DOF sensor). Primary focus was on the form factor of the system (compact was key) as well as the variety of data streams available that can be turned on and off as necessary.

Companion also serves as an exploration into how we as users interact with and experience art. If hardware is accessible, easy or even fun to use, how could this better serve us as technologist and designers in what we create? Above you can see the UI designed in Max/MSP, streaming live data from the device including the quaternion rotation (to avoid gimble lock), Euler angles, linear acceleration (m/s^2), and temperature.
