Where There Was Light

Where There Was Light | Fall '19 | Max/MSP

'Where There Was Light' is a project designed with Elise Weiland, Steven Warnick, and myself. Using the Max/MSP coding environment, we created a playback melody system that utilizes movement data from an overhead camera as a means of producing customizable sound. Specifically, we have a system of audio envelopes that are customizable in the interface, as the position of the person or persons in the play space actually collect and then parse out the frequencies used to play back the "song" at a predetermined rate. This affords a new way of music making, that is less focused on the actual abilities of playing an instrument, singing, or any common form of sound synthesis that we know. Below you can see the system in real time.
