🏆🏆 2020 RGD Student Award - Accessible Design Winner
This is a poster series I created for Vancouver Community College Library. There are roughly 35 deaf students and staff in VCC and it also has an American Sign Language (ASL) program. The library wanted to create a series of installations regarding sign language with the purpose of making the deaf community and people who use ASL feel welcomed in the VCC library.
Verbal is not the only way of communication. The poster series uses common phrases that contain words ’speak' or 'say’, and I replaced those words with ‘sign’ with relevant hand movement of ASL in the background. This poster makes people look at familiar things from a different perspective, and let them acknowledge that sign language is also a true language.
