Lakewood Archways
A Constructed Reality
Lakewood Archways is a project based around repetition in design and an odd familiarity linking my hometown to Sarasota. Lakewood Ranch is a community that uses row housing and single-design architecture to an extreme. Being used to a similar type of neighborhood near my own hometown in IL, I found this place strangely comfortable but still understood the striking similarity. In this series of images, I worked from the ground up using Lakewood Ranch's repeating architecture as a basis for my work. The final works include a hint of variation in each, disrupting the perfect cookie-cutter design of these neighborhoods. The series serves as a reminder of how similar these communities based on repetition are to each other, while at the same time it starts to disrupt the nature of its design.
