A Framework for Individuality - Concept

The buildings of Amsterdam exemplify how architecture can express its individuality, whilst remaining coherent within a wider design language.  Its streets are lined with different buildings belonging to different owners, each relating to the next and adding something new in an ever changing city.
Replicating this individuality is not easy and risks making developments incoherent.  Nowadays, housing is often driven by a single developer to an undetermined occupant.  Previous attempts to create individuality in housing have relied on rules to govern their coherence, however this has arguably led to developments appearing contrived and sterile.

My concept is for a custom build development where a 'framework' of static elements organises the housing and creates its coherence without the need for rules.  Within these static elements the occupants are free to individualise their homes in whatever way they see fit.
