Stair-CASE || Theoretical Library- Play Space
Addition of a 100sqm play and library area to existing preschool
The site in Pu’An humbly urges architecture to invite nature within itself, in its non-physical essence. The cultivated valley, swept clean of trees and replaced with a carpet of vegetation, inspires one to employ the verticality of thin wooden members to sweep along the three sides edging the valley.
The proposal seeks an elevated vantage to the valley of green. The library is a dynamic experience of stepping up to the reading room that snugly sits above on the northern end, with books on one side and the valley on the other.

The staircase pavilion is enveloped by timber trellis that lets in diffused light, ventilation and intercepted view of the landscape. The canteen becomes the lightly bounded space in the middle, fed by the adjoining pantry accommodated below the reading room. The extended tiled roof shades the food counter, while the school kids sprawl on the negative un-built space gestured  just by a couple of steps and landscape merging with the rice fields beyond. The intervention aspires to have minimum ground footprint and maximum engagement with the surroundings.
