This is my attempt to make my own visual journal of historic and contemporary artifacts and movements. This is part of my ACVL100 Assignment 3 where i am required to research art movements from the 20th century. With these art works and movements i will be comparing the original and modern versions to each other.
I will be comparing a historical artwork from the Art Nouveau Movement  to a contemporary art work through visual analysis.

Art Nouveau is an ornamental style of art that was very successful during 1890 and 1910 in Europe and the United States. Art Nouveau is noticed and characterized by its use of a long, sinuous, organic lines and was used mostly in architecture, interior design, jewelry and glass design, posters, and illustration. The major objective of Art Nouveau was to break down the bias of artworks needing to be traditional artworks such as especially painting and sculpture) and applied arts.

Figure one was made in 1893 - 1894 by Aubrey Beardsley. This black drawing was inspired by Japanese woodcuts.  It uses decorate properties and you can see it is inspired by nature and uses a lot of organic lines to show fluidity in the leaves and in the woman's dress. You can see the repetitive nature of the artwork in the trees. The fruit and leaves form a decorative boarder around the woman and you cam see the pattern they make while they are very simplified.

Figure two is a modern take on Art Nouveau using the Fictional character from Marvel "Gambit" instead of getting inspiration from nature. They have used the long organic lines to emphasis fluidity in the coat he is wearing and his hair and they used the cards as inspiration for the patterns. they have added words to the art nouveau card as a more modern feel to the card and they've added color to the background to the card but still keep the decorative aesthetic.

The modern artwork has also made art for arts sake and decoration and hasn't stuck to the bias of traditional arts and used the patterns at a boarder for the focus of the artwork.
