A12 City Structures

The former A12
It is possible that within the next 20 years, various technologies and societal changes will cause road use in London to fall drastically. In the event of this scenario, how might we make use of the road infrastructure left behind?
An initial investigation for Asphalt Aspirations, A12 City Structures takes a section of the A12 East Cross Route in London and investigates how a linear development might inhabit the former road. Particular attention is paid to bridging the gap between the two sides of the infrastructure, linking a park-side suburban street to a former industrial area undergoing regeneration. Careful changes in scale, use, and language, as well as the creation of a pedestrianised high street and semi-private garden help to blend the former urban barrier into the wider fabric of the city. The lessons learnt during this project helped to inform my final post graduate thesis and outcome.
