Clasto comes from the greek "κλαστός" which means both stone and broken; the stone in the hands of the oppressed one, and broken against the oppressor.
This project started with the brief of making a stencil font. After a short investigation of the background of this theme I realized that stencil as a graphic style has suffered a big change since the digital era. Today, there is an esthetic concern on stencil fonts over the functionality of the analog activity. However, some of the few worlds that have preserved this method are the social movements and the urban display, in which stencil is still an important mean of expression and publication. With a strong character inspired by these countercultural movements and the social unrest, plus various formal features, this font is conceived to be a voice for artists, activists and basicaly everyone who wants to make stencil and shout out their mind.
