A Clockwork Orange - Book Cover Project

Prior to this project, I had never read A Clockwork Orange, but once I had, I was completely engrossed by it. I thoroughly understood the protagonist Alex's character and I really wanted my design to reflect him.

Whilst I was reading the book, I found it really difficult to interpret, due to the fact the book contains Nadsat, a fictional language created by Andrew Burgess, therefore I thought that a Nadsat dictionary should be included in my design. The Nadsat dictionary would also have special edition content like interviews and other notes.

The basis of the design was to represent a double vinyl, due to music being a massive influence on the book and the protagonist. One side of the 'vinyl' would hold the book itself, while the other would contain the Nadsat dictionary. The decorative illustration, which is a reflection of blood being beautiful to Alex and originally derived from the quote "krovy on tap" meaning blood on tap, hence the flow of the illustration.
To enhance the vinyl concept, the book was designed to look like a vinyl and the Nadsat dictionary to be kept simple. I decided to make the titles of the books to resemble music headers to further emphasise the musical impact in the book.
