Gold Leaf

Gold Leaf is a study in style; the intent was to achieve a look that kept the expressive brush strokes from an oil painting, while freely moving in 3D space. A lot of different ideas were explored in developing the look, and many pre-rendered compositing passes were designed and layered together. The original base animation was rendered from 3d, but all of the look, shading and light were applied during compositing.

Process
A lot of different comp passes were used for the background: from a UV pass rendered from 3d, different textures, effects and procedural animation were applied and blended. Below are some frames illustrating all the different layers.
