WOMEN of the ZODIAC
an illustration project
This project started out as a simple homage to womankind, mixed in with my recently acquired fondness of astrology, and quickly turned into an in-depth study of personality versus aesthetic, and was acquired by a French Magazine to be put out in one of their 2021 New Year's Editions.
All the illustrations were made from scratch, using only the studio pen and noise brushes in Procreate, and trying to combine shadowing and color to create the 12 variations shown below.
The types and layout chosen try to stay well within that range, and each of the signs brings their own thing to the table. I tried to focus more on the essence of each woman, rather than the clichés behind the signs themselves as they are often depicted. I was mostly inspired by the women in my own life, and their unique characteristics.
The signs are divided by element, all trying to keep the essence of their qualities:
The fire signs are wild and free and bold. The earth signs are grounded, stable and hard-working. the water signs are moody, mysterious and profound, and the air signs are wise, constantly in an alternate dimension.
