I had this idea almost a year back, when I was studying for a test.
I had to read about Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai's famous woodblock print 'The Great Wave off Kanagawa' (simply called The Great Wave). While reading about it, I felt inspired to make a version of my own.

I made two versions of this artwork. The first version was made in 2019, the second, almost a year later, in 2020.

While looking through my portfolio I came across the 2019 version and realized it could use better execution and decided to redo it.

My initial approach was to redraw the entire thing from scratch. I soon realized that wasn't going to be necessary and ultimately decided to paint over the original 2019 version with a few tweaks here and there.

A very basic frame animation helped push the idea behind the illustration even further.
