"Bruin Apocalypse"

I've always been drawn to natural landscapes. But when I say that, I sometimes feel as if I'm not giving enough credit to the beautiful campus I call home. Granted, it's in the middle of a massive, sprawling city, but there's just something about the UCLA campus that really...is just gorgeous.

You know what they say about photographing places...if you find somewhere beautiful and accessible, so has everyone else, and it'll be all but impossible to get a shot that nobody has seen before. During my first two years here, I kept trying to get away from campus for every promising display of light. Surprisingly, I never stopped and thought for long enough to realize that...I've never seen a stunning image of my own campus. Try looking yourself...search the official school websites, search google images, search flickr, everywhere you can think of...find me just a small handful of beautiful shots of UCLA under great light and I'll take it all back.

So, over the past year or so, I’ve been scouting and gathering up a list of locations around campus that I’d like to shoot under dramatic light to show the world just how amazing my school is. I’ve shot from the roofs of the buildings with the best views, the main courtyards, the expansive grassy lawns, the iconic steps…and it just keeps drawing me in for more. Despite having 50,000 people on this campus every day, I've never seen an image of this view before, except for the ones my friends and I have shot. Sure, there are no mountains, crashing waves, or reflections…but there are dramatic foregrounds, and if there is light…I can try to make it happen!
