Its good looks are no accident—the city’s commitment to art and design go back almost 500 years. Yu never realised how special her home was until her son asked to have his wedding there. After that moment, she opened up her home to guests from around the world. “Kanazawa is special not only because there is a lot of traditional culture here,” she says, “but also because you can easily take part in it.”
