Far Cry New Dawn - Water & Cubemaps

Far Cry New Dawn

"The story is set seventeen years after the events of Far Cry 5. After the nuclear exchange known as "the Collapse" devastated the world, survivors attempt to rebuild the community in Hope County."

Water Texture
For my work on New Dawn, I had the opportunity to improve the water texture present in the world. Following a very colored Art Direction, we had to inspire ourselves with real world location such as Banff in Alberta, where the water color can be saturated in blue.

For this task, we had to tweak parameters about the color, opacity, deepness and also other paramaters for the underwater view. Beside basic normal textures for its detail, everything was done in shader with the inhouse engine, Dunia.

In order to capture screenshots of different time of day, at different location and position, I've scripted a workflow to automate the process. The script would go at multiple defined locations, capture the shots, change the time of day, and move on. It was ran at every iteration and saved numerous hours of loading.

"Gameplay" sequences were done by the Mission Level Designer of this location.

Cubemaps
The concept of a cubemap texture is to have an accurate reflection on the environment and around it. Mostly used for the interiors but also exteriors, they are really useful for anything related to metalness.

For this task, we had to immerse ourselves in the environment and capture 360' degrees cubemap textures. We also used my previous script to capture multiple regions quicker.

Shoutout to Sébastien Clermont-Petit & Jimmy Ho for their portfolio images.
