National Award of Architecture and Urbanism
On June 14 of 2017 the Colombian Architects Society opened the competition for designing the National award of Architecture and Urbanism. Every 2 years, the society grants an award among the winners of the 8 categories that participate in the Colombian Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism.
The architect Lorenzo Castro asked for my contribution in the competition as he had the idea of producing an object that could be piled up with others of its kind (in the case the participant had the privilege of winning in several categories). The main concept was to resolve the whole issue based on a unique type of piece. Design the National Prize and from this make small modifications to the size and thus, have awards with the same shape for the different categories and mentions of the Biennial.
Lorenzo Castro achieved second place in the competition. In spite of the results, he asked me if we could develop the idea as a game for children. Thus I started a new process of investigation about references and materials. Some measures changed, but the idea was the same: three different pieces that accomplish a product. The result was an 18 wooden pieces game, with bright colors and a wooden box for storage.
