THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM

Hi welcome to TheElephantInTheRoom, this website is an experiment made by four communication design students as a matter of an academic project - Kyrt. This project aims to explore questions and raise awareness about data mining, which sets to play a crucial role in a revolution that started around 2001 - Surveillance Capitalism.

For some its a problem of privacy, for others it´s a problem of data ownership and for most its a matter of democracy. "Technology is separating citizens of all kinds of societies into two groups: "The watchers (invisible, unknown) and the watched. And the problem with this subject is that asymmetry of knowledge translates into asymmetry of power" - Shoshana Zuboffs.

There is no quick five-year solution to this problem as we still struggle to understand it, and the impact it can have in the future, the same way that in 1495 people were also clueless about the impact printing would have in society. That is why our mission is to bring awareness to this issue hoping it will speed up the process of understanding this new revolution of the 21st century.
